Ninety-nine posts ago, we started this new blog. Our aims for it were — and continue to be — simple; for it to serve as a place where we collect together things that intrigue, inspire and interest us. Crucially, we intended it as a creative outlet for us to share together, and we are really enjoying this joint project so far.

So, to celebrate, here are are a few photos that we have taken over the last few months, in various places when the light has been right, and we cast shadows of ourselves, as we explore the world together.

Here we are inside Le Grand Palais, walking in rainbows.
Paris, June 2012.

We took this photo standing in the dappled light of the Japanese
garden in Den Haag, June 2012.

This is undoubtedly one of the most beautiful spots we have sat to eat
afternoon tea, alongside friends. Lake Luzern, Switzerland, May 2012.

We took this inside the Gashouder at Westergasfabriek, waiting in anticipation
for Gui Boratto to hit the stage. Amsterdam, July 2012.

Here we are walking along the Wellington waterfront in February 2012,
a few days before our wedding.

As you can see, some of these shadow photos are more successful than others, with a lot being dependent on the surface that our shadows are projected onto – in particular I like how the brick wall turned out in the photo taken in Amsterdam. But I think the best one is the last photo, from Wellington. It wasn’t until I saw it on the computer screen that I realised the way the white flowers had become part of the photo, which was a lovely surprise.

Photos by CIA and PJD in various locations as stated in the captions, throughout 2012. Thanks for visiting and reading over these past few months; we have loved hearing your comments and feedback, thoughts and ideas. If you are new here, hopefully you’ll stick around!

  1. Love the silhouettes. I, too, am frequently surprised by what my cell phone actually captured once I load the images to the computer! All the best! M

  2. My family and I love doing these shots – we call them Shadow Family Photos. We’ve got a few from memorial sites, the beach when we were engaged, and just playing in streetlamp lights.
