Words to live by?

The brilliance of this sign only increases the further you take it from its context . Just…EAT & SHOP.

Perhaps, these are words to die by.

  1. I agree. It’s like people are robots being programmed: Eat & Shop. They could’ve said: Dining & Gallery. 🙂 I am finding everything around us these days ordering us to obey these signs. Don’t you think? Indulge in …., give in to …
    🙂

    • I agree with you in general! The urge towards consumerism is fairly demoralising.

To be completely fair to the Tate Modern (a most excellent gallery), I posted this sign out of context (it’s one of a series, and I think they would, as an institution be mortified to realise how it might be construed).

In every day life though, the pressure of advertising, the subtlety of modern marketing, and the general trend of built-in obsolescense is irritating; however, the power is ours to resist.
