PJD hails from Australia’s largest inland city, but loves jumping in the surf and catching some waves. He makes a killer* signature breakfast of pancakes with strawberries and chocolate ganache, and his trifle and sponge cake pack a punch too. He’s always the first to name the origin of a sample buried in a song, has an encyclopaedic knowledge of literature, loves the Gunners and is known to devour books in the space of a few short days (or even hours!) when given the chance. He doesn’t mind getting down on the ground to take that one really great photographic shot, in fact, he loves to take every opportunity to do so.

CIA hails from a town with a name that translates in English to ‘the fringe of heaven’. Living in Leiden is the first time she’s never been able to see the ocean from her window. She’s always eager to smile for the camera and likes to do her best to encourage PJD to do the same too. SheΒ  would choose savoury over sweet if pushed to it, despite loving baking up sweet treats in the kitchen, enjoys lazily listening to summer music in the park, and loves getting so immersed in an art gallery or museum that she’s shocked when they ring the bells for closing time.

Together we are exploring the world, folding cranes as we go, enjoying our chance to see, hear, feel and taste new cultures and places, whilst remembering where we are from, who and what is important to us, and what we want to do in the world. We love cooking up a storm together, and can’t wait to have more kitchen space to do so without crashing into one another. We are always up for an adventure and a laugh with friends, we love discovering hidden art that others might have overlooked, and we share a love of good design, the written word, the excitement of finding a new song that we can’t wait to share with one another.Β  Also, we love flying foxes.

Here on Folded Cranes we aim to bring together things that inspire, intrigue and interest us, to write about them with an interesting and light-hearted approach, and to share some of our photos that we take, individually and together, as we travel, learn, and live life in ways we hope are socially conscious and sustainable.

You can expect to find a new post from us once every few days at the least, and hopefully more. We’d love to hear what you find interesting, so go on, comment as much as you want and use those buttons! We really hope you’ll keep visiting us here at Folded Cranes.

PJD, you’re a long way from Australia’s largest inland city but I’m still here. I wouldn’t mind trading places if you’re in Belgium or France! I enjoyed reading this ‘about’ page. Well done!

Well, we’re a lot closer now (and this About page needs some updating!); It’s tough to find the right line to take in these things, so we’re glad you enjoyed it.

    • Fresh mint tea and cake are both good things, to be enjoyed as often as possible. I hope you keep on enjoying the travels (though now that we are back in New Zealand the locations might be a little less diverse).
